Arlington Visit

On Thursday evening CPT Michael Marano a member of the Honor Guard at Arlington, gave a presentation about the life of his great uncle, PVT Nicholas DeGrasso, who was killed at Anzio. The power point presentation was prepared by Michael's uncle Frank Marano who joined our membership several years ago in honor of Nicholas DeGrasso.

On Friday we boarded the Nina's Dandy, a low decked river boat and cruised under the dramatic low-arched stone bridges of Washington DC. A delicious luncheon was served as we sailed up the Potomac past our nation's monuments to Georgetown. On our way back to historic Old Town Alexandria we walked the decks in beautiful sunshine enjoying our time together.

Saturday began with an "All Hands Business Meeting" where it was agreed that a reunion will be planned for 2014, the seventieth anniversary of the beachhead landings. After a free day to explore the Washington area with families, the day culminated in a Banquet Dinner with special guests from the current day 504th PIR (Parachute Infantry Regiment), a unit that saw action with so many other units in Italy in the first days of 1944.
