A very special event took place on October 18, 1986 at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery, during which the Anzio Beachhead Veterans of World War II Unit Plaque was installed in the building adjacent to the Tomb. One hundred and thirty members, associates and guests were in attendance for the ceremony. If you are in that area you may wish to visit this piece of memorabilia in honor of our companions who gave their all at Anzio.
Another event was a memorial we all will remember – "Anzio Annie" (the big German railway gun that constantly shelled us on the beachhead) we placed a memorial along side of her as well as a plaque in the museum. Two hundred persons attended the ceremony.The following is a list of the year and location of previous Anzio Beachhead Veterans of World War II annual reunions and special events that have been held.
Perhaps the most memorable events were revisiting the beachhead on the 50th and 60th anniversaries of the events surrounding the Liberation of Rome.
